Street Artist n°5: The Blues Violinist.

Ça fait un moment que j'ai filmé ce jeune homme avec son violon, mais c'est avec plaisir que je vous le présente aujourd'hui. Je marchais dans la rue Saint John à Cambridge, quand les mélodies vives et les solos déchaînaient du musicien m'ont titillé l'oreille. Après un bref arrêt où j'ai pris ma vidéo et parlé avec lui, j'ai repris mon chemin, dans la rue illuminée, enchantée par les doigts de fée du violoniste adepte.

I recorded this video long time ago, but I'm please to post it today. I was walking in Saint John's street when I heard the ultra raging solo played by the musician. So after recorded him, I got back my way, in the street illuminated by the music played by the skilful violinist.

Street Artist n°4: The Sonic Manipulator.

I know it's long last time I posted a Street Artist, but you'll pardon me with this one. Once more it's in Cambridge I saw, I tent to say this Daft Punk's fake. The desguise (home made I think) is quite well done, and even if the music (almost as well as the lyrics) is total bool shit, the show is pretty enjoyable. May be "funny" is a bit more appropriate here. If you want more information about him and which planet does he come from, check his website.

Je sais que ça fait un petit moment que je n'ai pas posté d'artiste du rue, mais celui-ci fera pardonner mon retard. C'est une fois de plus dans les rues de Cambridge que j'ai vu, je dirai, ce fake de Daft Punk. Le déguisement (sans doute fait maison) est plutôt bien réussi, et bien que la musique (presque paroles inclues) soit incompréhensible, le show reste sympa à voir. Jazz amateur at The Cricketers.

The Cricketers is a pub I really recommand to anyone who's in Cambridge. Why? Because it's an authentic english pub where you can play live music. You just have to take your instrument, plug it and ready to rock'n'roll. This happens two nights per week. On monday (Jazz) and on Tuesday (Rock/Blues). Here in the video my friend Ray from Japan is playing guitare. Enjoy it, it almost could be a "Game/Jeudi".

The Cricketers est un pub que je recommande à tous ceux qui sont à Cambridge. Pourquoi? Parce que c'est un authentique pub anglais et que n'importe qui peut y jouer de la musique. Suffit d'agripper sa guitare (ou autre instrument), se brancher et hop, envoyer la sauce. Ceci à lieu deux soirs par semaine, le lundi jazz, et le mardi rock/blues. Dans la vidéo que j'ai postée, c'est mon ami Japonais Ray qui joue à la guitare. Appréciez la vidéo, ça aurait presque pû être un "Game/Jeudi".

Street Artist n°3: Le nomade aux baguettes enchantées, dans Cambridge./The nomad with his magic sticks, in Cambridge.

While I was spending a usual day in Cambridge (having lunch somewhere, enjoying the free services of the shops, walking around, etc...), I saw with my friend Stefan, this drummer playing in the street. I was quite impressed by how fast he played. It was pretty cool to see him.

I had a quick word with him, Oded Kafri. I bought one of his CDs called The DruMachine Project, which he composed by himself. I was a bit disappointed with his music. It is experimental, using a lot of different kinds of music like ska, electronic, arabic melodies, an old fashion guitar and others... I'm not really keen on it.

Anyway, I've a great memory of this man in the street. Enjoy the video.

Pendant un après-midi des plus normaux dans Cambridge, (aller au restaurant, profiter des produits test des magasins, faire le petit tour des rues à pied, etc...) j'ai vu avec mon ami Stefan, ce batteur qui jouait dans la rue. J'avoue avoir été impressionné par la rapidité du bonhomme. C'était une rencontre assez cool, distrayante dans cette routine du samedi.

J'ai eu une très brève conversation avec Oded Kafri (le batteur lui-même (oui oui)). J'ai pris un de ses CD, The DruMachine Project, dont il est l'exclusif compositeur. J'ai été déçu des chansons qui sont très expérimentales et qui mélangent ska, electro, une guitare old fashion, des mélodies arabes, et j'en passe. Bref, rien qui ne m'a fait accrocher.

En tout cas, j'ai beaucoup aimé le voir jouer dans la rue. Profitez de la vidéo.

Dananananaykroyd live at the Haymakers.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!"
This is the first sound which came out of my mouth (by mistake ->). The day of the concert, I wanted to be well prepared. So I left my camera's battery to recharge in the morning, but I left it at home. Shame...
Fortunately, I had a great feeling and I talked to a lovely girl, who sent me some pictures. I thank Jenny O'Neill very much for what she did. And the pictures are amazing.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!"

C'est la première chose que j'ai dit en arrivant au pub. Ce jour là, ce jour que j'avais tant attendu, j'ai oublié la batterie de mon appareil photo à la maison. Pas de photo = (presque) pas d'article.

Je peux vous dire que je m'en suis voulu. Heureusement j'ai une chatche de la mort, et j'ai sympathisé un  petit peu avec une fille qui elle, semblait être plutôt bien callée en photo. Ça a pas loupé. Toutes les photos que vous pouvez voir viennent d'elle. Bref, je dis donc "un grand merci à Jenny O'Neill qui nous a beaucoup aidé dans notre quête" d'avoir des photos trop top.

I was in the crowed, in the front row, right in front of the musicians, without the chore of taking pictures. Just ready to enjoy the concert 100%. All the musicians were present, except the two singers. "Where're the Wallys?"
Next to me were two weird guys, both hooded, just like those naughty boys who always stand around the fountain of the village lost somewhere in the countryside. I looked at them when suddenly they jumped on the stage after the drummer's call. Gosh, these were the singers!

Et sinon, what about the gig? me direz vous. Ne vous en faîtes pas, j'y viens ;)
J'étais donc dans le public, rassuré du fait que j'allais avoir des photos; et libéré de la tâche d'en prendre. J'ai donc pu profiter à 200% (j'étais tenté de dire plus mais ça sonnait moins français) du concert. Sur la scène, tous les musiciens étaient présents. Ou presque, car les deux chanteurs manquaient à l'appel. Au même moment j'ai quand même noté la présence de deux mecs vraiment étranges autour de moi, capuches misent à la Kenny, comme les bogoss qui traînent autour de la fontaine du petit village perdu dans la campagne. Le batteur donne le coup d'envoie, et voilà que ces deux mecs sautent sur scène. C'étaient les chanteurs. "TIN Tin tin...".

So the gig began, one of the singers always caught my shoulder when he came to the front of the stage. He gave me half an apple, the other half had been eaten by himself, so by the way the guitarist gave me a slice of bread. Everthing's normal.

Le concert avait donc commencé, le chanteur me sautait dessus à chaque fois qu'il venait sur le devant de la mini estrade du pub, il m'a donné une pomme à moitié mangée, et le guitariste une tranche de pain. Rien d'anormal jusque là.

Due to the nanoscopic size of the pub, the band was really close to us (the public). In fact we danced with them, headbanged and all of that, they asked us to make a tunnel to get through to the bar.
In addition, the show was brilliant. The rythmics of the guitars were extremely fast, the boys's band jumped everywhere, the atmosphere was at the maximum and it never come down. Two hours of great performance.

Grâce à la taille nanoscopique du pub, le groupe était très très proche du public (très.) et nous a beaucoup fait participé. J'entends par participer: pogo de la mort, arche d'éloge (tunnel ici serait plus approprié).
De plus, le show était génial. Tous ces jeunes fous survitaminés n'arrêtaient pas de sauter partout (surtout les deux chanteurs en fait), les rythmiques fusaient comme je l'attendais, et l'ambiance du concert n'est jamais retombé.

You have to know that Danananananaykroyd is the kind of band that you shouldn't listen to after an eventful night. Their music is really fast, it screams a lot, there are a lot of distorted sections, the cymbals are always crashed.. It's perfect to romp to.
Anyway, the concert was just exceptional. It's really good to see them live. Even if you don't know the band very well, it won't be long before you dance with the rest of the audiance.
I recommend you get your ticket as soos as you can.

Il faut savoir que Dananananaykroyd c'est le genre de groupe qu'il ne faut pas écouter le lendemain d'une soirée. Ça va très vite, ça crie beaucoup, ça tape beaucoup sur les cymbales et il y a souvent des passages très saturés. Faites en usage pour vous défoulez comme moi, ça marche bien.
Bref, le concert était tout simplement exceptionnel. C'est vraiment un groupe à voir en live. Même si vous êtes pas très familiers avec les chansons, vous serez embarqués dans le mouvement de toutes les manières. L'ambiance chaleureuse s'installe aussi vite que le silence se fait après les trois coups au théâtre.
Je vous recommande sincèrement de vous procurez un billet.

Street Artist n°2: Fernando's Kitchen in the street

While I was walking in the street, I met these two young musicians playing on the pavement. Oh Gosh, you can't imagine how much I thank them for making my freezing winter in Cambridge a bit warmer. In fact I could feel the hot and comfortable Spanish weather when I listened to their music.
I talked a bit with the guitarist who told me about their band called Fernando's Kitchen. Together they compose flamenco assiociated with some Arabian and Latin sounds. Have a look on their website, which talks better than me about them. And by the way, get a free track.

Alors que je me baladais dans les rues, j'ai rencontré ces deux jeunes musiciens jouant sur le trottoir. Dieu sait combien je les remercie, d'avoir apporté un peu de chaleur dans cet hiver glacial à Cambridge. En effet, car leur son au parfum exotique m'a donné la force de tenir mon appareil et de les filmer, sans sentir que mes doigts après 10 minutes étaient devenus de vrais glaçons. 

J'ai discuté un peu avec le guitariste qui m'a parlé de leur groupe Fernando's Kitchen, avec lequel ils jouent et composent un flamenco au mélange de son latin, d'afrique du nord et bien sûr hispanique... (je (presque) cite). Allez jeter un oeil au site internet du groupe, qui est très bien fait. En prime vous aurez droit à une chanson gratos.

The Bravery Live at the Haymakers.

A week ago, I went to see The Bravery at the Haymakers, in Cambridge. They were late, the singer was pissed, so a real "rockstar". Which is not a problem for me, when the band put on a good show. But alas, the singer screwed up the vocals. You can even say that his voice was just as crappy as that annoying and drunk man's that we have in a party. Do you know? That man who always screams "I'M NOT DRUNK!!". But people seemed to like that! In fact the concert was similar to a Peter Doherty's concert. It's pretty bad, but everybody dances.
Fortunately the other musicians were present to save the concert a little.
Anyway, it was The Bravery (<-- Myspace) at the Haymakers. There is a video of the concert, the sound is as bad as the singer's voice. Sorry about that.

Il y a une semaine de ça, je suis allé voir The Bravery en concert au Haymakers, petit pub dans un village voisin de Cambridge. Le groupe était en retard, le chanteur était bourré, bref ils se la jouaient "rockeurs". Ce qui ne me dérange pas du tout tant que les musiciens assurent une belle performance. Or ce soir là, le chanteur n'avait qu'une voix massacrée à nous offrir. Pour donner une image à ces paroles, je vais dire qu'il chantait comme le mec bourré et relou qu'on a dans une soirée. Vous voyez? "JSUIS PAS BOURRÉ!!". Et malgré ça, les fans du groupe sautaient et dansaient quand même. Un peu comme à un concert de Peter Doherty, c'est pas génial mais les gens bougent quand même.
Bref, heureusement que les musiciens eux assuraient pas mal, ce qui relevait bien le niveau du concert. 
C'était The Bravery (<-- MySpace) en live au Haymakers. Voici une vidéo du concert, avec un son aussi destroy que la voix du chanteur. Sorry about that.

"Trop Funky"

It was yesterday evening at La Raza. With my friends we went to a special evening Funk/Jazz/Soul, where we could listen to some very nice bands like Jamiroquai, James Brown, Prince Po, Frankie Numi, and others. The songs were played by vinyls and mixed by a DJ well inspired. We danced and drank cocktails listening to some funk musics. Well I think you guessed, it was just enjoyable.

C'était hier soir à La Raza. Je suis allé avec mes amis à une soirée spéciale Funk/Jazz/Soul, où il était possible d'écouter quelques groupes d'exceptions, tout en sirotant un cocktail. Jamiroquai, James Brown, Frankie Numi, Prince Po, et bien d'autre. Tous leurs vinyles fusaient entre les mains du DJ bien inspiré. Bref vous avez deviné, c'était bien cool.

L'homme, la bête et les 27 autres trucks.

I shot this man (or band. I don't know what I should say), a couple of weeks ago.
He was just pretty weird, but interesting. First because of his whole stuff. He had a lot of "decorative" things around him. Secondly, he was singing, playing four instruments and in addition he had a fairly unusual partner who did the accompanying vocals.
Watch the video and enjoy the surprise just like I did. :)

J'ai rencontré ce monsieur il y a déjà quelques semaines dans les rues de Cambridge.
Très intriguant par tout son bordel, mais pas seulement. Il chantait, jouait de l'harmonica, faisait les percus, etc.. Mais en plus, grande surprise, de temps à autre son fidèle acolyte faisait les choeurs. 
Regardez avec un peu d'attention, moi ça m'a beaucoup fait sourire. :)

Little Comets live at the Haymaker

 

                       

Hello dear visitors,

  The other day, I had a great surprise to see that Little Comets were going to play in a small pub called the Haymaker in Cambridge, so of course, I went there.
  What a good perfomance it was, such like when I saw them the first time last summer. It's a pretty good experience to see them. I recommend you to get a ticket if you have the occasion.

  Little Comets are a band of four young English boys,  who make a delicous mixture beetween the accompanying vocals, the sweet melodies, the main vocal and together they are really well harmonized. It's pretty awesome music, you should have a look at their MySpace.

  Anyway, there is a video of this very good gig, unfortunately the sound is very poor compared to the image quality. 

  The same night I discovered another band that I'll be pleased to introduce during this week. Keep an eye on the blog.

Bonjour à tous,

  L'autre jour j'ai eu la grande surprise de voir que Little Comets allait jouer à Cambridge, dans un petit pub pas très charmant, mais cependant très réputé ici pour la "live music". Vous avez deviné, j'y suis allé.

  Encore une fois, j'ai apprécié au plus haut point la superbe performance qu'ils ont pu offrir ce soir là. Une expérience live à vivre et une ambiance très chaleureuse. Je vous conseille de vous acheter un billet s'ils passent près de chez vous.
  Little Comets c'est un groupe de quatres jeunes anglais qui nous composent des chansons aux mélodies très prenantes, avec des choeurs et un chant très harmonieux. Jetez un oeil sur leur MySpace, ça vaut le détour.

  Bref, voici une vidéo de l'autre soir. Malheureusement, la qualité du son n'est pas tip top, cependant la vidéo est plutôt de bonne qualité.

  Au passage, n'oubliez pas de checker régulièrement le blog, cette semaine je vais mettre une découverte assez intéressante que j'ai faîte ce même soir.
