Ga-a-ame/Jeudi n°4: Ol'Dirty - Lumberjack (version acoustique, hawaiienne, à la rache de l'arrache)

Boum BOUM boum. Ça c'est une reprise acoustique qui en amusera plus d'un et qui en fera rêver d'autre. J'avais proposé à Ol'Dirty il y a un bon petit mois de cela une interview filmé, qu'ils ont accepté avec enthousiasme, suivis d'un boeuf de musique. Et bien maintenant tout le plaisir est pour moi de vous montrer cette fameuse rencontre. Au téléphone quelques heures avant de se faire, je disait a Damien le batteur "je prends plein de trucs dans ma maison" ce a quoi il a répondu "ouai vas-y on fera avec ce que tu auras!!!" et ça n'a pas loupé. Le résultat? le voici, et il ne peut pas y avoir de version plus épuré. Cette vidéo est la seule et unique prise qui a été faîte.

Bank BANG bank. That is the acoustic sound that will please more than one person and make another's day. I proposed to Ol'Dirty about a month ago to do an filmed interview which they accepted enthusiastically, followed by a music improv sesh. And it is not that I finally have the pleasure of showing you this famous meeting. On the phone a few hours before, I said to Damien, the drummer, "I'm bringing loads of things from home" to which he replied "Yeh, we'll do it with whatever you've got!!!' and that was not false. The result? Well, here it is, could ntot have hoped for anything better. This video was made in one, and only one take.

Cold War Kids live at Plage De Rock, St Tropez.

Lorsque j'étais à Cambridge, j'ai passé des heures sur internet, dans les kiosques, et même au marché au black à chercher des places pour Cold War Kids à Londres, mais sans jamais aboutir. Je suis donc rentré bredouille, les pieds traînants, la rage au ventre et frustré de les avoir loupé. Mais voilà qu'à ma plus grande surprise, il joue à Port Grimaud, à 5 minutes de chez moi. Mes sauveurs? Plage De Rock. MERCI!!

Et le concert c'était comment?

On va dire que c'était partagé en deux. Une première partie, exclusivement composée des chansons du second album (qui au passage était bien moins bon que le premier), un peu décevante avec des musiciens pas trop à l'aise et un public qui l'était encore moins. Puis une deuxième, qui dépotait grave. Avec essentiellement des chansons du premier album cette fois, Cold War Kids a su mettre en trans leur public et pardi, a se reveiller eux même!! Et a partir de là tout a était très différent. Tellement plus cool, tellement mieux. Pour ce qui n'était pas là, je vous laisse vous mettre à ma place dans le public avec Cold War Kids a 10 mètres entrain de jouer Hang Me Up To Dry.

When I was in Cambridge, I spent hours on the internet and scanning the black market for seats to see Cold War Kids in London, but without any luck. I came back to France empty-handed, my feet dragging, full of rage and frustration at having missed them. But to my greatest surprise they were playing in Port Grimaud, 5 minutes from my house. Who were my saviours? Plage De Rock! Thank you!!!

And how was the concert?

You might say that is was in two parts. The first part, made up exclusively of songs from the second album (which is not as good s the first album, by far) was a bit disappointing with musicians that were not at ease and an audience that was even less so. Then the second part where things really got off the ground. Essentially just songs from their first album this time, Cold War Kids knew how to captivate their audience, and managed to wake themselves up a bit!! From then onwards everything was different. Much cooler, much much better. For those that were not there, I'll let you imagine yourself in the audience with Cold War Kids 10 meters from you playing Hang Me Up To Dry.

Splash Macadam live at Plage De Rock, Saint Tropez.

Des "tuiiiii-tiluluuu", des "Splash Padam tim boum ta ta", sans oublier évidemment les "pibulubulu ta bi da bi da bi doum" de la basse, qui retentissaient tout le long de la plage de Port Grimaud. En bref, c'était super rock jeudi dernier à Saint Tropez avec Splash Macadam. Le jeune groupe français qui a fait l'ouverture des Plage De Rock 2011 avec Anna Calvi a su faire danser le public de ses riffs et ses rytmiques acharnés. Je vous laisse découvrir tout ça en vidéo.

Some "tuiiii-tiluluuu", others "Splash Padam tim boum ta ta", and of course the "pibulubulu ta bi da bi da bi doum" from the bass, that is what we could hear all along the beach. In Short, last thursday was really really rock in Saint Stropez with Splash Macadam. The young band opened the Plage De Rock 2011 with Anna Calvi, and They knew how to make people dance. Ahouuuuuuuuuu!! Moi la vielle salopette et la guitare toute cassé de ce cher Seasick Steve, je ne m'en lasse jamais. D'ailleurs, pour ce qui sont dans la même situation que moi, il y a une vidéo très sympa de lui sur La Blogothèque. Mais aussi, il vient de sortir un nouvel album, You Can't Teach An Old Dog New Tricks. Hé oui!
